Stimulants

 

The common stimulants are :

Short Acting Ritalin      Sustained Release Ritalin    Concerta  Dextroamphetamine

Cylert (Pemoline)   Adderall 

Strattera  while technically not a stimulant, it has similar properties.

Stimulant medications may be effective in 70-75% of patients diagnosed appropriately with ADHD. . Although not common, children will sometimes appear to be withdrawn, depressed and tearful if the dosage of stimulants is too high. It is best to start with a low dosage and gradually increase it as needed. Too high a dose of stimulant medications has lead to hallucinations and paranoid thinking in a small number of cases.
